TALCHER NON SALUTE STATE
Talcher state formerly Orissa States Agency, now in Orissa State, area of state was 399 sq miles or 1033 Sq.Km. comprising of 261 villages and population of the state was 69,702 in 1931. Privy purse of state at the time of accession on 1 March1948 was Rs.62,500.
A legend states that Talcher was founded
in the 12th century by one of four brothers belonging to the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty of Jaipur who were on a pilgrimage to Puri;
during the same journey another brother became the ruler of Bonai State and two others were killed. At the time of the British Raj
Talcher was one among the 26 feudatory states of Odisha. The state's accession to the Indian Union was signed by its
last ruler Hrudaya Chandra Dev Birabar on 1 January 1948.
