SONEPUR                                                                           9  GUN  SALUTE  STATE

                                                                                                                                      Indian Princely State Sonepur ( Sonpur ), Located in Sabalpur District ,Later Orissa states Agencies ,now in Orissa State.Area of state 2,347 Sq. Km., and population was 2,37,920 in 1931.Sonepur state founded in 1556 by Maharaja Mandan Gopal . Privy purse of state at the time of accession on 1 Jan.1948  was Rs. 76,700.

Sonepur also known as Sonpur State, was one of the princely states of India during the period of the British Raj. Its ruler was entitled to a nine gun salute. Formerly it was placed under the Central India Agency, but in 1905 it was transferred to the Eastern States Agency. Its capital was Sonepur, the only significant town in the area. The former state's territory is in the present-day Subarnapur districtOdisha.

Sonepur state was founded in 1635. The state became a British protectorate on 13 December 1826. The ruling family was awarded with the title Raja Bahadur for services rendered to the British during the Sambalpur uprising The last ruler of this princely state signed the accession to the Indian Union on 1 January 1948.
