MEWAR (UDAIPUR)                                                 19 GUN   SALUTE   STATE

 

Mewar state is formerly Rajputana States Agency. now in Rajasthan State. area of state was 33,517 Sq.Km. ,and population of state was 10,18,805 in 1901 and19,26,698 in 1931.The population of state approximately double in 30 years . Privy purse of state at the time of accession on 7 April 1949 was Rs.10,00,000.                                                                                                The state of Mewar was founded around 1530; later on it was called Udaipur after the name of its capital. In 1568, Emperor Akbar conquered Chittorgarh, the capital of Mewar. In 1576, Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar, was defeated at the Battle of Haldighati and Gogunda, Udaipur and Kumbalgarh were conquered. However through guerilla warfare, Mahrana Pratap recaptured Western Mewar. In 1615, Amar Singh accepted Mughal suzerainty over Mewar. It remained in Mughal hands thereof for about 150 years. When Udaipur State joined the Indian Union in 1949 it had been ruled by the Rajputs of MoriGuhilot and Sisodia dynasties for over 1,400 years. Chittaurgarh was the capital of Sisodia clans of Rajputs of Mewar.

THIKANA  BANLAS

Banlas was a thikana or jagir of the ancient principality of Mewar .

The territory was ruled by a thakur (noble) descendant of the Maharana Sangram Singh II (1716-1734), from whom five houses ( havelis ) originated . These thakurs are members of the Sesodia clan of the Rajputs and belong to the third class nobility of Mewar.

THIKANA   KACHHOLA

Kachola or Kachhola was a thikana or jagir of the former principality of Mewar , consisting of 90 villages and a population of 12,515 in 1901 . The capital was the village of Kachola about 5 km east of the Banas River and about 160 km northeast of Udaipur (Rajasthan) . Shahpura is about 30 km northwest of Kacchola. The territory was governed by the Raja of Shahpura , as a concession from the sovereign of Mewar in exchange for an annual tribute of 2,400 rupees and some services, and outside the territorial limits of Shahpura.

THIKANA   OGNA                                                                 

Ogna or Oghna was a thikana or jagir of the ancient principality of Mewar , in the jungle region of Bhomat in the region of the Aravalli Mountains in the southwestern part of the country. In 1940 it was integrated into the Kherwara district in the administrative division of that year of the Mewar. The capital was the village of Ogna on the banks of the river Wakal. Ogna, defined as a land of great beauty and lush greenery, is famous for having issued a valuable postage stamp (those of Mewar overloaded)

THIKANA   PANARVA    

                                                    

The Panarwa thikana was located in the Bhomat region in the former state of Mewar, in present-day Rajasthan. The capital of the thikana was in the village of Manpur. The territory of Panarwa was extensive until the 1700s, from Jura in the west to Pai in the east, gradually reducing in size as various smaller thikanas spun off its   territory.   The thikanas of Ogna, Adivas, Umariya, Oda and others all claim Panarwa as their origin.

THIKANA   PARSOLI

Parsoli was a thikana or jagir of the ancient principality of Mewar , made up of 46 villages. The capital was Parsoli, 135 km north of Udaipur (Rajasthan) with only 831 inhabitants in 1901 . The territory, about 45 km north of Chitor , was ruled by a thakur (noble) of the first class of Mewar , with the title of rao , who belonged to the Chahuan clan of the Rajputs . The income in 1894 was 25,000 rupees and the tribute paid to the darbarof Mewar of 926 rupees. The state was granted to Kesri Singh, second son of Ram Chandra I of Bedla , by Maharana Raj Singh of Mewar, around 1670 .
