JAMKHANDI (NON SALUTE STATE)
Jamkhandi
State was one of the Maratha princely
states of British
India. It was founded in 1811 and its capital was
at Jamakhandi. It was administered
as part of the Deccan States Agency of the Bombay
Presidency and was one of the former states of the Southern Maratha Country.
Jamkhandi state was formerly Southern Maratha country (Bombay) , now in
Maharashtra State , Area of state was 1,357 Sq Km, Population of state was
144,282 in 1931.Privy purse of state at the time of accession on 19 Feb.
1948 was Rs.91,163.
Jamkhandi state was
founded in 1811 by Shrimant Gopalrao Patwardhan. He was a descendant of
Bramhibhoot Harbhat Buva Patwardhan of Kurandvad Senior State.
The name of the
state was derived from Jambukeshwar temple. The temple itself got the name
because it was deep inside a Jambul blueberry
(Jambul in Marathi, Nerale
Hannu in Kannada, Jamun in Hindi) forest. Today,
a primary school functions from the temple precinct. The town of Kundgol, which is in
the neighboring Dharwar district, was a non-contiguous part of
Jamkhandi State until it merged into the Indian Union on 19
February 1948.

Type-7 – Used in 1939- 42 AD
, size 95x70mm. , Perf.12. Value in Hindi and Kannada and Swastik in the
design on the top of the left panel and several swastika in the border design.
Court Fee in English at the top of the right panel. Date and value printed in
the stamp and the serial numbers are added by hand.
REVENUE STAMP :- Type-10 – Used in 1894-96 AD (Fazli year 1306 = 1896 AD ), size 45 and 42 mm. Diameter.
Type-15 - 1911-17 AD , (Fazli year 1327 = 1917 AD ) Size 30 x 35 mm. , Imperf. but false perforations , Laid paper.
(Fazli year 1326 = 1916 AD) and (without Sansthan Jamkhandi in Hindi below Lord Ganesha )
Type-22 - 1937-38 AD , Size 42 x 77 mm. , Perf.11 ½ , Wove paper.
