BONAI ( NON GUN SALUTE STATE )
Indian Princely State Bonai, Located in Sundergarh District ,Later Orissa states Agencies ,now in Orissa State.Area of state 8,907 Sq. Km. , number of inhabitants 80,186 in 1931, Capital city - Bonaigarh, Privy purse was 80,000 Rs. at the time of accession in to independent India on 15 April 1948 .
A legend
states that Bonai was founded in the 12th century by one of four brothers
belonging to the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty of Jaipur who were on a pilgrimage to Puri, another
brother became the ruler of Talcher State and two others were killed.
The
rulers of Bonai were Rathore Rajputs, related to the dynasties ruling in the
states of Seraikela, Kharsawan and Rairakhol. On 15 April 1948 Bonai's last ruler
signed the accession to the Indian Union.
